Situation in the ATO area as of May 18, 2016

The enemy continues fire influence on the ATO forces units. During twenty-four hours, it was noted that the adversary shelled 24 times from the small arms, grenade launchers, 152-mm artillery systems and 82/120-mm mortars. The attacks were, as follows: 2 attacks – Stanytsia Luhanska (Novoaidar direction), 4 attacks – Triokhizbenka, Novozvanivka (Sieverodonetsk direction), 2 attacks – Zaitseve (Sloviansk direction), 6 attacks – Avdiivka, Opytne (Donetsk direction), 8 attacks – Slavne, Novotroitske, Hranitne (Volnovakha direction), 2 attacks – Pavlopil, Shyrokyne (Mariupol direction).

The enemy conducts rotation, strengthens advanced units, and refills ammunition. It is continued reconnaissance measures in order to disclose a defence system of our forces in the following directions:

Novoaidar direction. It was carried out rotation of the units of the 4^th separate motorized rifle brigade (Alchevsk) of the 2^nd AC (Luhansk) of the russian Armed Forces in the area of Khoroshe. The units of the brigade’s engineer combat company have improved fortifications of the positions in defence’s depth. The ammunition capacity is refilled.

Sieverodonetsk direction. There was noted moving to the contact line, as follows: a motorized rifle company of the 6^th separate motorized rifle regiment (Stakhanov) of the 2^nd AC in the direction of Novooleksandrivka through Kalynove; up to the battery of jet-propelled artillery division of the 6^th separate motorized rifle regiment of the 2^nd AC from Stakhanov in the direction of Kirovsk;

Sloviansk, Donetsk directions. It is made reconnaissance of the frontline and the objectives in the depth of the ATO forces defence, for which there was employed:
SRGs which accomplished raids in the directions of the settlements of Luhanske, Zaitseve, Avdiivka, Spartak, Butovka mine, Pisky and Krasnohorivka;

UFVs, with the help of which in the area of the so-called “Svitlodarsk ledge”, there was conducted air reconnaissance along the contact line at the frontier of Luhanske, Horlivka and in the depth of defence of the ATO forces near Vidrodzhennia.

Ammunition (70 boxes of 120-mm and 82-mm mines) were delivered for the needs of the units of the 11^th separate motorized rifle regiment (Makiivka) of the 1^st AC from the depots of missile and artillery armament (Hirne) of the 1^st AC.

The projection of the weapons and military equipment from Russia continues:
in the direction of Donetsk through Snizhne – 12 152-mm SP arty sys “Akatsiia” on the large-capacity trailers;

in the direction of Donetsk from the side of Novoazovsk – five mobile automated radioelectronic warfare systems “Leer-2” (on the basis of armored vehicles “Tiger”).

The Ukrainian side informed the representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine about the presence of tanks, SP arty sys and 220-mm MLRS “Urahan” in the areas of Makiivka, Kalynove, Ozerianivka and Donetsk.

Other losses among the personnel of the units and formations of the Russian 1^st AC were reported:
on May 16, 2016, four perished were delivered from the area of Opytne to the morgue of the Regional Clinical Hospital named after Kalinin, and four wounded servicemen of the 3^rd separate motorized rifle brigade (Horlivka) – to the special department for treatment of the Russian servicemen;
on May 16, 2016, two perished and five wounded servicemen of the 100^th separate motorized rifle brigade (Donetsk) were delivered from the area of Zaitseve to the Makiivka Municipal Hospital № 1;
on May 17, 2016, three perished and five wounded servicemen of the 11^th separate motorized rifle regiment (Makiivka) were delivered from Avdiivka direction to the Donetsk Central Municipal Hospital.
In view of a low level of military discipline and professional training, the cases of providing “friendly fire” on the own positions in the units and formations of the Russian 1^st AC continues.

On May 17, 2016, the units’ personnel of the 7^th separate motorized rifle brigade (Debaltseve) of the 2^nd AC (Luhansk), having been at the frontline in state of alcoholic intoxication, attacked the brigade’s command who arrived for inspection, and the servicemen of the 11^th separate motorized rifle regiment wrongly shelled the personnel of the separate company of the UFVs, as a result of insufficient cohesion’s arrangement.
It was established other cases of stealing of weapons in the units of the 1^st AC of the Russian Armed Forces and in the units subordinated to the so-called MDB DNR.

On May 16, 2016, for the reason that factory-packaged submachine guns AK-47 and Makarov pistols appeared for sale at the black market of Donetsk, the employees of the Russian FSB have checked storage place of weapons of the so-called MDB DNR (Donetsk, Shevchenko Avenue, 26) where other small arms consignment has recently transported from Russia.

On May 17, 2016, taking into consideration that one serviceman of the 9^th separate assault motorized rifle regiment of Marines Corps (Novoazovsk) of the 1^st AC was arrested in Novoazovsk when he tried to sell Makarov pistol, in the process of a spot checking of regiment’s storage places of weapons and ammunition was discovered a shortage of five Kalashnikov SMG (AK-74 and AK-47), sniper rifle (SVD) and Makarov pistol.
