Situation in the ATO area as of April 24, 2016
The enemy maintains the intensity in Donetsk direction.In the areas of the settlements of Avdiivka and Mariinka:
it is preserved a high intensity of attacks against ATO forces positions, including with 82-mm and 120-mm mortars;
it was conducted rotation of forward units of the 100th separate motorized rifle brigade (Donetsk) of the 1st AC (Donetsk) of the Russian Armed Forces in the western outskirts of Donetsk. It was confirmed location of the mortar battery of the 1st motorized rifle battalion of the 100th separate motorized rifle brigade in the area of Staromykhailivka. The supplies of ammunition, food and POL for the units were refilled.
It was confirmed the presence on the territory of former plant “Topaz” (Donetsk) of the separate company of the electronic warfare of the 1st AC and the unit of the UFVs (UFV “Orlan-10”) that is performed aircraft recce in Donetsk direction.
The enemy actions in other direction were as follows:
Novoaidarsk. A unit of the 16th separate Special Forces brigade (Tambov) of the Western Military District (St. Petersburg) of the Russian Armed Forces is deployed in Luhansk (it is territory of the former clothing factory “Hratsiia”).
Sloviansk. A howitzer SP artillery battery of the separate artillery brigade (Donetsk) of the 1st AC is deployed in Horlivka (it is territory of former enterprise “Concern Stirol”). The fire positions are organized in residential quarters “Soniachnyi” and “Aksionovka” (10 km in the south from the contact line) from which the shelling of the ATO forces positions are carried out in the areas of Holmivskyi, Zaitseve, Maiorsk.
During twenty-four hours, the enemy shelled 45 times from small arms, grenade launchers, anti-tank missile systems, IFVs, 82-mm and 120-mm mortars. The attacks were, as follows: 7 attacks – Novozvanivka, Luhanske, Zaitseve (Sloviansk direction); 27 attacks – Kamianka, Avdiivka, Opytne, Butovka mine, Mariinka (Donetsk direction); 6 attacks – Berezove, Novotroitske, Starohnativka (Volnovakha direction); 5attacks – Shyrokyne (Mariupol direction).
The Ukrainian side informed the representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine about the presence of tanks and SP artillery systems in the areas of Holubivske, Debaltseve, Yasynivka and Telmanove.
Taking into consideration the danger of the participation in combat actions and the gradual understanding of the inevitability of punishment for committing war crimes in the temporarily occupied territories of the East of Ukraine, the cases of desertion of the servicemen in the units and formations of the 2nd AC (Luhansk) of the Russian Armed Forces are noted. On April 23, 2016, three servicemen of the 2nd motorized rifle battalion of the 7th separate motorized rifle brigade (Debaltseve) willfully left a patrol duty for protection of weapon ordance depots located near Petrivske and moved towards the Ukrainian-Russian border.
A discontent of the local population in the temporarily occupied territories of the East of Ukraine with the presence and actions of the Russian occupation troops increase. On April 23, 2016, two servicemen of the mortar platoon of the 9th separate assault motorized rifle Marines Corps regiment (Novoazovsk) of the 1st AC, performing the order of the regiment commander Colonel of the Russian Armed Forces D.Bondariev (the name under cover Kovalenko) concerning the widening of Easter vegetarian menu, shelled a private pond from mortar to catch fish. Indignant fishermen from Novoazovsk rolled up the Russian military marauders in fishing nets and tried to sink them.

facts considering the participation of the Russian Armed Forces career
servicemen who are participating in combat actions in the temporarily
occupied territories of the East of Ukraine for onward transferring of
the evidential base to the International Criminal Court, according to
the established procedure. The information concerning the Russian
servicemen, who are suspected in committing of war crimes in the
territory of Ukraine, is regularly transferred to the EU and NATO member
states by the Ukrainian side, inter alia, in order to enlarge the
“sanction” list.The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine received information that Major of the Russian Armed Forces ISKUZHENOV Ruslan Tulihenovych (ISKUZHENOV Ruslan Tuligenovich) holds the position of “the Chief of Staff – the Deputy commander of the 1st motorized rifle battalion of the 3rd separate motorized rifle brigade (Horlovka, Ukraine) of the 1st AC (Donetsk, Ukraine) of the Center of the Territorial Forces (Novocherkassk, Russia) of the Southern Military District (Rostov-on-Don) of the Russian Armed Forces”, in Ukraine uses the name USPANOV. It is known that Ruslan ISKUZHENOV was born 12.01.1984, in Paltsivka Tavricheskyi rayon Omsk oblast, studied in Omsk cadet corps,in 2007 graduated from Novosybirsk Higher Command School.
To perform criminal orders of the Russian military-political leader in the temporarily occupied territories on the East of Ukraine, Major R.ISKUZHENOV was seconded according to the order of the Russian Ministry of Defence from 22.01.2015 №0019 from the position of the commander of the motorized rifle battalion of the 18th separate motorized rifle brigade (Kalynivska, Village Khankala, Hroznyi, Chechnia, Russia) of the 58th Army (Vladikavkaz) of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. He served at the positions of the commander of motorized rifle platoon, motorized rifle company, the Chief of Staff and the commander of motorized rifle battalion 18th separate motorized rifle brigade.

To perform criminal orders of the Russian military-political leader in the temporarily occupied territories on the East of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel of the Russian Armed Forces K.KANAPLIANIK was seconded according to the order of the Russian Ministry of Defence from 22.02.2015 №0049 from the position of the deputy commander on airborne training of the separate Special Forces battalion of the 18th separate motorized rifle brigade (Kalynivska, Village Khankala, Hroznyi, Chechnia, Russia) of the 58th Army (Vladikavkaz) of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, and nowadays holds the position of the commander of the separate reconnaissance battalion (Donetsk, Ukraine) of the 1st AC (Donetsk, Ukraine) of the Center of the Territorial Forces (Novocherkassk, Russia) of the Southern Military District (Rostov-on-Don) of the Russian Armed Forces.
Unlike most of officers of the Russian Army, Lieutenant Colonel of the Russian Armed Forces K.KANAPLIANIK tried to avoid the temporary duty to Ukraine; he also gave a legal claim. According to the materials of session of Hroznyi District Military Court from June 24, 2015, K.KANAPLIANIK litigated a legitimacy of transferring him at the position of the Senior officer of the 2nd department (a department of the reserved formations of the motorized rifle forces) of the 12th Reserve Command (from September 2015, the Center of the Territorial Forces, Novocherkassk) of the Southern Military District of the Russain Armed Forces for further seconding to Ukraine.
Taking into consideration the regular publishing in world mass media the DIU information concerning the participation of Russian career servicemen in the armed aggression Russia in the temporarily occupied territories of the East of Ukraine and with the purpose to decrease risk of mass insubordination and to avoid the mission on Donbas, the Russian military-political leadership encourages generals and officers by different ways, including the promotion at service and appointing to a higher military rank.
General-Major of the Russian Armed Forces S.KUZOVLIEV who during the period of autumn 2014 – spring 2015 commanded the 2nd AC (Luhansk) of the Russian Armed Forces, was appointed as the Commander of the 20th Army (Voronizh) of the Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.
General-Major O.TSEKOV who during the period of autumn 2014 – spring 2015 commanded the 2nd separate motorized rifle brigade (Luhansk) of the 2nd AC (Luhansk) of the Russian Armed Forces, was appointed as the commander of the 4th tank division of the 1st tank army (Bakovka\Odintsovo, Moskva oblast) of the Russian Western Military District. The rank of “General-Major” received on February 21, 2015, for the participation in the Russian armed aggression in the temporarily occupied territories of the East of Ukraine.
